Making tracks……. Now we are in Wyoming and stopped to visit this site. It is over 1200′ above the surrounding terrain and over 5000′ above sea level. Over 20 Indian tribes, including the Lakota Sioux, the Cheyenne, and the Crow call this outcropping sacred. Their cultures all have stories that explain its formation. Most involve a bear chasing children and the striations on the sides caused by the bear’s claws as it tries to get to the children. Today there was a fire at the base and they closed the park. Terrie lucked out because the exercise of the afternoon was to walk to the top of the tower. Instead we got to watch the Natl Forest firefighters arrive with all the fire fighting equipment.
